About this item
- Black sesame seeds for planting
- Sesame seeds are a good source of healthy fats, protein, B vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and other beneficial plant compounds. Regularly eating substantial portions of these seeds — not just an occasional sprinkling on a burger bun — may aid blood sugar control, combat arthritis pain, and lower cholesterol.
- Soil: Sesame can be grown on a wide range of soils but well drained light to medium textured soils are preferred. The optimum pH range is 5.5 to 8.0, acidic or alkaline soils are not suitable.
- These are harvested when they’re as dry as possible. Harvesting the seeds on a large scale may require the use of an all crop reel head or row-crop header. However, sesame seeds can turn rancid quickly because of the high amount of oil they contain. Because of this, they’re moved quickly through sales and packaging.
