Kala Chana, also known as Desi Chickpeas, are a nutritious, small, dark variety of chickpeas popular in Indian cuisine for their high protein and fiber content. A 2lb (32oz) bag is a common size for household use, ideal for meal prepping or traditional recipes like Chana Masala.

Desi Chickpeas (Kala Chana) are small, dark, shrivelled-looking seeds with a tough outer skin and a bright yellow interior. Unlike the larger, smooth-skinned beige “Kabuli” chickpeas, these are a “desi” variety native to the Indian subcontinent.
